Troubleshooting: Issue viewpoints not displaying correctly

Step-by-step guide on how to diagnose and resolve the 3D viewpoint problems you may be facing with your Issues in BIMcollab.

Updated over 3 months ago

Based on the application you are working with, scroll to the relevant section in the article and go through the steps:

  1. BIMcollab Zoom

  2. BCF Manager for Revit

  3. BCF Manager for Navisworks

  4. BCF Manager for Archicad

  5. BCF Manager for Tekla

A. Issues in BIMcollab Zoom

Step 1: Is the camera position correct?

  • No, the camera is in the wrong position, or the model is not visible at all. → Go to Step 2

  • Yes, but some objects are missing, or no objects are isolated. → Go to Step 3

  • Yes, but objects are not displaying correctly (color overrides) → Go to Step 4

Step 2: Where was the Issue created?

  1. BIMcollab Zoom → Please check that the IFC models you have open use the same Global Origin that was used when the Issues were created:

  2. Revit BCF Manager → Please check that the "Coordinate base for viewpoint creation" setting matches your IFC export: Use models from Revit for model coordination

  3. Archicad BCF Manager → Please check that the location of the IFC Global Origin of the IFC files being used in BIMcollab Zoom and the location of the Survey Point present in Archicad match: Use models from Archicad for model coordination

Step 3: Did you receive a warning message when performing the zoom-to?

  1. Yes, I received a warning → A number of different instances can cause this; please follow the information in this article: How to view elements saved in an Issue?

  2. No, I did not receive a warning → Please check that the Issue contains the correct viewpoint information and settings at the time of creation: Create the best viewpoints

Step 4: Have you checked the colors override setting for zoom-to?

  1. Please ensure that the 'Use override colors from viewpoint on zoom-to' setting is turned on: Colored components in my viewpoint are not shown in BIMcollab Zoom

B. Issues in Revit BCF Manager

Step 1: Is the camera position correct?

  1. No, the camera is in the wrong position, or the model is not visible at all. → Please check that the coordinate system used in your Revit project (Project Base Point, Shared Coordinates, or Survey point) matches the 'Coordinate base for viewpoint creation' setting for the BCF Manager: Use models from Revit for model coordination

  2. Yes, but some objects are missing → Go to Step 2

  3. Yes, but I see the whole model and no objects are not isolated → Go to Step 2

Step 2: Do you have any linked Revit files in your project?

  1. Yes → If your components are located in a linked Revit file, the BCF Manager is unable to retrieve and isolate them. Please refer to this article for a workaround: Why can some components not be found in Revit?

  2. No (If no objects are isolated at all) → Go to Step 3

Step 3: Are you working in a Revit project that has been detached from a central model?

  1. Yes → Please note the Revit BCF Manager is not able to retrieve component information from your models if they are in a detached state. Please ensure you save your file correctly when detaching from a central model by discarding all worksets.

  2. No → Go to step 4

Step 4: Have you checked your zoom-to setting?

  1. No → Please ensure your Zoom-to setting is on Full: Zoom-to and section box

  2. Yes → Go to step 5

Step 5: Did you receive a warning message stating that more than 25.000 components exist in your viewpoint (when performing the zoom-to)?

  1. Yes → If there are too many components linked to a viewpoint, the BCF Manager will automatically change the 'Components in viewpoint' setting to 'None = shows whole model'. Please make sure that not too many components are visible when creating an issue:

C. Issues in Navisworks BCF Manager

Step 1: Is the camera position correct?

  1. No, the camera position is incorrect. → Go to Step 2

  2. Yes, but I see the whole model and no objects are not isolated → Go to Step 3

  3. Yes, but the viewpoint doesn't match the clash snapshot → Go to Step 5

Step 2: Are you working with NWC files?

  1. Yes → Please check that the coordinate base setting in Navisworks is set to Shared Coordinates: Use models from Revit for model coordination

Step 3: Have you checked your zoom-to setting?

Step 4: Did you receive a warning message stating that more than 25.000 components exist in your viewpoint (when performing the zoom-to)?

  1. Yes → If there are too many components linked to a viewpoint, the BCF Manager will automatically change the 'Components in viewpoint' setting to 'None = shows whole model'. Please make sure that not too many components are visible when creating an issue:

Step 5: Did you import clashes with the 'Use saved viewpoints' option enabled?

  1. Yes → This option is useful when you want to customize the viewpoints of your clashes. However, if no saved viewpoints have been generated for your clashes, you might receive some unexpected viewpoint results. Please only check this option during import if you have created a report of your clashes with the 'as viewpoints' option selected: Customize the viewpoints linked to imported clashes

D. Issues in Archicad BCF Manager

Step 1: Is the camera position correct?

  1. No, the camera position is incorrect. → Go to Step 2

  2. Yes, but some objects are missing, or no objects are isolated. → Go to Step 3

Step 2: Have you checked that Survey Point and Project origin match?

  1. Please check that the Survey Point in Archicad matches the Project Origin, as this will always be used as the reference point for the camera:

Step 3: When originally exporting your IFC, did you use the option to export elements as separate building parts?

  1. These components only exist in the IFC export and not in the actual Archicad file; therefore, the BCF Manager cannot find them. Why are some components not found, while they are in my Archicad Model?

E. Issues in Tekla BCF Manager

Please see all the articles below that refer to troubleshooting incorrect Issues for the Tekla BCF Manager:

Still having trouble?

If you have gone through these troubleshooting steps and your Issues are still not displaying correctly, please try:

  1. Checking that you are using the latest version of BIMcollab Zoom or the BCF Manager

  2. Ensuring your project is properly synchronized
