Use KEY files to activate BIMcollab software with a closed On-premise BIMcollab space

Updated over 3 months ago

📝 Note: Please visit the On-premise policy BIMcollab article, which outlines the transition from On-premise solutions to enhanced single tenant and multi-tenant cloud offerings, including reasons and pathways for upgrading.

All software in the BIMcollab eco-system, including the BCF Managers and BIMcollab Zoom, require activation. Normally this is done online and requires the computer to have an internet connection.

However when you run a closed On-premise, such an activation might not be impossible. In such a case we will send you a so called *.KEY file to allow the activation to be performed without any external connection.

A *.KEY file can be provided to you by KUBUS when requested. To apply the file on a system, follow these steps:

  • WINDOWS

    1. Assuming that C:\ is your system drive, create the following path: C:\ProgramData\KUBUS\BIMcollab

    2. Copy the *.KEY file into this folder. Ensure that all users will have READ & WRITE access to both the BIMcollab folder as well as the *.KEY file.

  • MacOS

    1. Create the following path:\Library\Caches\KUBUS\BIMcollab

    2. Copy the *.KEY file into this folder. Ensure that all users will have READ & WRITE access to the BIMcollab folder as well as the *.KEY file.

With the *.KEY file now in place, any user on that system will be able to use the software. The activation will take place in the background with no further interaction needed from the user.
