What are Smart Views?

Smart Views are rule-based filtering and colouring of model elements. Using properties, you can show, hide, or colour components in the 3D view. This feature is ideal for visually checking against an IDM (Information Delivery Manual). Smart Views are a core feature of BIMcollab Zoom, and they can be used even without a license. For more information about how to create a Smart View, please refer to this article: Basics of making Smart Views.

How are Smart Views shared?

Smart Views can be shared in a project by using the shared folder and by connecting to a BIMcollab Space and project. Once created, the Smart Views in the shared folder are visible to all project team members and can be used to perform their checks.

The shared folder is editable only by team members who have Zoom edit rights and are connected to the BIMcollab Space. However, if a project member with BIMcollab Zoom edit rights does not have a BIMcollab Zoom license, there will be restrictions, which are explained below.

Limitations

Project team members can perform their checks using the Smart View Shared folder in a project, regardless of whether they have a BIMcollab Zoom license. The key difference, however, is that the Shared folder will be in read-only mode for those without a license.

This means that users cannot:

  • Add or remove Smart Views from sets.

  • Edit and make changes to the Smart View definitions in the Shared folder.

  • Rename Smart View or their sets.

📝 Note: Similar to working without a BIMcollab Zoom license, the Smart Views shared folder will appear as read-only if a project team member does not have BIMcollab Zoom edit rights in their BIMcollab project Space, even if they do have a BIMcollab Zoom license.

❗ Warning: To be able to share Smart Views, at least one person in the company must have a Zoom license. If all users are using the free version of the BIMcollab Zoom app, sharing of Smart Views is not possible.
