Using Prostream in combination with BIMcollab

Link Prostream folders to BIMcollab Zoom to sync IFC & point cloud files, ensuring all team members always use the latest models.

Updated over 3 months ago

In BIMcollab Zoom, it's possible to link IFC files and point clouds, stored in a shared folder, to a BIMcollab issue management project. This ensures that all team members in the BIMcollab project always have access to the latest files in Zoom. This shared folder can be located on Prostream, an online platform for file management and other purposes.

To use a Prostream folder as a Project Folder in BIMcollab Zoom, proceed as follows:

As a project manager

📝 Note: Users must have at least the right to view all folders in the project, and to view and download files within those folders. You can find more information about editing user rights in a Prostream project on the Pro4all website .

  1. Create a project on Prostream. Make sure the project is accessible to all team members in your BIMcollab project.

  2. Create a folder structure in the project with all files related to the project.

  3. Download and install the Prostream Client as described on the Pro4all website .

  4. Create an empty folder on your computer and give it a descriptive name.

  5. In the Prostream Client, select 'Synchronize Folder'.

  6. Under "Projects," select the main folder of the project you just created in Prostream. Make sure all subfolders are also checked.

  7. Click 'Next'.

  8. Check 'Create root folder' in the top right corner.

  9. Click 'Browse' next to the project folder you want to sync.

  10. Browse to the empty folder on your computer where you want to sync the files and click "Done."

A folder with the name of the Prostream project will appear in the folder you created on your computer. The rest of the folder structure and files will be synced to this project folder.

  11. Open BIMcollab Zoom.

  12. Connect the folder to your project as described in the article Set up the Project Folder to associate shared files with a project .

  13. When browsing to the appropriate folder, select the root folder with the name of the Prostream project.

  14. The models will be displayed in the 'Navigation' tab.

  15. Right-click on the models to be loaded and choose "Load Model."

The model load status in BIMcollab Zoom is saved for each individual user.

  16. Synchronize the project.

The next time you connect to the project in BIMcollab Zoom, the models will automatically load from the correct location. Make sure you're logged in to the Prostream Client before connecting so the latest files are synced to the local folder.

  9. Open BIMcollab Zoom.

  10. Connect the folder to your project as described in the article Load files from a shared project folder in BIMcollab Zoom .

  11. When browsing to the appropriate folder, select the root folder with the name of the Prostream project.

  12. The models will be displayed in the 'Navigation' tab.

  13. Right-click on the models to be loaded and choose "Load Model."

The model load status in BIMcollab Zoom is saved for each individual user.

The above steps only need to be performed the first time the project folder is linked to the BIMcollab project. The next time the user connects to the project in BIMcollab Zoom, the models will automatically load from the correct location.

⚠️ Attention: Before connecting to BIMcollab Zoom, make sure you are logged into the Prostream Client so that the latest files are synced to the local folder.

Because this setup points directly to a folder, any changes in the linked Prostream folder are automatically recognized when a user reconnects to the project after the change. Therefore, this workflow ensures that all team members are always working with the most up-to-date models. Replace updated models, add new models, and remove outdated models from the shared folder.

⚠️ Attention: An updated version of a model can only be detected in BIMcollab Zoom if the new file has the same name as the previous version. If the updated version has a different name, it will be added to the project as a new model, and the previous version will be shown as missing (if it has been removed from the folder).

The model tree provides feedback on the charge status and availability of the models based on their color. For more information on the meaning of the different colors, see this article about different model name colors.
