Create a new template
Project templates help you standardize project setup across your BIMcollab space.
By creating a template as an administrator, you can reuse predefined settings such as issue settings, BIM requirements and team members, when starting a new project.
New projects can be created from a template, meaning these settings are automatically applied from the start.
Once there is at least one template present in the space, it is possible to enforce the use of templates, so you can ensure all projects are based on the same properties.
To create a template, click on the button 'New project' in the upper right corner of the My Projects page.
Choose a name to identify the template.
You can start with a new and clean project, OR choose an existing project OR a different template to use as a starting point for the new template.
Check the 'Create as template' box.
Go to the General menu of the project Settings tab, add information like the start and end dates, and change settings if needed.
Define other project properties in the following tabs on the Settings page.
The created template can be used as a project template for new projects.
The template is visible on the My Projects page for all users who are added as a project leader to the project. Other team members will only be able to choose the template when creating a new project, but will not see it on their My projects page.
⚠️ Attention: Only administrators can create templates. If you cannot see the 'Create as template' button, you do not have administrative rights in the space. Contact the space administrator to adjust your rights if necessary.
Add BIM requirements to your template
If you use BIMcollab Zoom, you can include BIM requirements in your template.
Smart Views, Clash rules, and Lists can only be included in a project template by using an active project, because you need to be able to connect to it via BIMcollab Zoom.
💡 Tip: This is useful when you want every project to follow the same model-checking standards.
To do this:
A.Create an active project with settings and BIM requirements of your company standards:
Create a new project in your BIMcollab space
Add all project leaders in the space as team members to the project
Add all correct issue properties to the project (Milestone, Areas, Labels, Types, Priorities, Groups, Custom fields)
Then open BIMcollab Zoom and connect to your new project
Put all company Smart Views, Clash rules, and List definitions in the shared folder of the project and synchronize
Now your new project is ready to be made into a template
B.Create a template project based on the project you have just set up
In BIMcollab, create a new project
Select the previously created project as 'Project template'
Create a project template
Enforce the use of templates
To ensure consistency, you can require all new projects to be created from a template.
When this setting is enabled:
Users must select a template when creating a new project.
Creating completely empty projects is no longer possible.
Go to the Administration dashboard by clicking on the gear icon in the top right corner
On the Space Administration page, go to the Settings tab
In the field 'Enforce the use of project templates', select 'Yes'
⚠️ Attention: Administrators can always choose any project to copy the settings from, even when templates are enforced.
Best Practices
Create separate templates for different project types.
Keep templates clean and up to date.
Regularly review workflows and BIM requirements to maintain consistency.
Limit the number of templates to avoid confusion.
