Uncoordinated models in the WebViewer

Learn what the "Uncoordinated models detected" error means in BIMcollab and how to resolve it.

When this happens

This error message shows up in the BIMcollab WebViewer when you load IFC models that are most likely not properly coordinated.

The message “Scattered models could cause unexpected interactions” means that the models you’ve loaded are too far apart. This can cause problems when trying to perform a zoom-to on an issue, for example.

To avoid such situations, it is important to verify that the disciplinary models are properly coordinated. By doing so, you can help prevent similar issues in future projects and encourage better practices moving forward.

This can be checked in the native modeling software, e.g., Revit, Archicad, Tekla Structures, etc. Because each software has a different workflow, it is not possible to provide a single solution or a set of recommendations.

What to check

  • The recommended workflow for model coordination and IFC export from the native modeling software

  • BIMcollab's guide to using models from Revit and models from Archicad

  • To check one of these common causes:

    • Inconsistent coordinate system across discipline models

    • Different origin points selected

    • Different unit systems are used

    • Orientation of the north arrow

    • Aligned elevations

    • Is the orientation of the axes of the axis systems the same across models

    • Are the base points (IFCSITE) in the same positions

    • Are the IFC export settings the same

    • and others

The general recommendation is that the coordination requirements should be set and agreed upon by the project team before the project starts. Model coordination problems are much more difficult to resolve once the project has started.
