Using model tags in BIMcollab Model WebViewer

Model tags allow you to categorise your models in BIMcollab Model WebViewer based on the specific needs of your project. 
Tags can help you find the right models and manage model visibility in an efficient way. Below we will discuss all the possibilities of creating, attaching and managing tags of your model(s).

Models uploaded in BIMcollab Model WebViewer are by default with no tags attached and fall under [No tag] in the Navigation panel. 

Model will not be shown under [No tag] after assigning at least 1 tag to it. [No tag] will not be displayed when all models are assigned to at least one tag.

Create Model tags

Only users who are allowed to upload models are able to create, edit and attach model tags. Read this article to Allow or limit team members to upload and modify files in the WebViewer. All changes performed on Model tags in a project will be automatically visible to all the users of the project.

If you have the rights to upload and modify files in the WebViewer, you can follow the steps below: 

Step 1: In order to create Model tags, click on the tag icon in the Navigation panel.

Model tags panel will open next to the Navigation panel. You will be able to manage your tags there.

Step 2: Insert the tag's name and click on 'Create tag'. Each new tag will be automatically visible within the Navigation panel.

Attach Model Tags to Models

Once the tags are created, it is time to attach them to models. The 'link' between Model tags and Models can be made in both directions by assigning Model tags to Models or Models to Model tags. How you link them does not affect their use and can be based on your preferences.

Below we will go through both methods.

Assign Models to Model Tags

This method is particularly useful when a new tag is created, and you want to add all relevant models to that tag or when you are classifying a new project.

Step 1: Choose the tag you want to assign models to and click on the three dot icon on the right. Choose 'Assign models' from the drop-down menu. 

OR you can do it from the Navigation panel and opening the three dot menu for a tag.

Step 2: Choose the model(s) you want to assign to the tag and click 'Save'.

You will see all the tagged models under the tag in the Navigation panel.

Assign Model Tags to Models

This method is useful when a new model is added to the WebViewer and it should be organised in some existing tags. 

Step 1: Choose the model(s) you want to be assigned to a specific tag. You can select multiple models at the same time. Click on the three dot icon on the right and click on 'Assign model tag' from the drop-down menu. 

Step 2: From the list that will pop-up in a new window choose the tags that you want your models to be assigned to. You can also choose multiple tags at the same time.  

Assigning multiple Tags

In the example above we assigned multiple tags to one model. The tags do not overwrite each other and can be freely chosen.

Models that are attached to multiple tags will appear under each of the tags separately in the Navigation panel.

When trying to assign tags to multiple files at the same time it can happen, that all the files will have a different set of tags assigned. To help you organize tags within your project, the tags in the 'Assign tags' menu are marked as follows:

 All models have this tag: All selected models are already attached to that tag.

Some models have this tag: Only some (more than 1) models are attached to that tag.

None of the models have this tag: None of the selected models is attached to that tag.

Interact with Model Tags

You can load and unload models attached to the one tag at the same time. You can doing by switching the toggle placed on the right of the tag's name

Just like with loading and unloading, you can also 'Load isolated' basing on the tag you choose. Simply click on the three dot menu next to the tag's name within the Navigation panel and click on 'Load isolated'. You will load only the models attached to the tag in question.

Manage Model Tags 

To edit or delete the tags open the Model tag panel and click on the three dot menu of the tag. You can choose to edit tag's name or to delete it.

Deleting tags does not delete models attached to it. If a tag is deleted and models attached to it are not attached to any other tag, they will be automatically place under [No tag]. Just like all the other changes, deleting tags is automatically effective for all the team members of the project you work on. 

You can undo assignment of tags by clicking on "Assign models" in the three dot menu and unselecting the models that are no longer related to this tag.
