If this is your first time working with IDS, we strongly advise you to first test these templates in ZOOM using the BCP and IFC files from our Sample Project.

Import an IDS

In order to use IDS for property validation in BIMcollab Zoom, these must first be added to your project via BIMcollab Nexus. Follow the steps below to import IDS templates.
  1. Go to your project’s IDS page in BIMcollab Nexus.
  2. Select 'Import' to create a new IDS
  3. Click in Source > From file
  4. Drag and drop the downloaded ‘.ids’ file or browse from your computer.
  5. Click Import to add the IDS template.
Only project leaders can create/import specifications.
Once imported, specifications can also be viewed in BIMcollab Nexus by all editor team members of the project.

Edit an IDS

One of the main objectives of IDS is to create project-specific requirements that can be easily shared among all collaborators on your BIM project. As a result, you can customize these templates to make sure they meet your project’s needs. Follow the steps below to edit your IDS.
  1. Select one specification and click on the 'Edit' button.
  2. Ensure to carefully read the specification’s description (here you will find a brief explanation of how it works).
  3. Modify the facets values in the 'All elements of' section according to your project needs.
  4. Modify the facets values in the 'Should have' section according to your project needs.
  5. Click on the yellow check button to save the changes.

Only project leaders can edit specifications.

Remember; specifications are composed of three sections (Description, Applicability, and Requirements) each with their own purpose. Editing values from each section will have different results. Therefore, be sure to modify the appropriate section according to what you would like to achieve. Below you can find some practical examples of how each section works.
  1. Description: Composed by the specification’s Name and Description. Modify it to properly identify your specifications among team members.
  1. Applicability: Represented by the ‘All elements of’ section. Editing its values will allow you to specify/filter which elements would you like to test. (i.e: Use the Entity Facet to look for all IfcDoor elements in your model)
  1. Requirements: Represented by the ‘Should have’ section. It has the purpose of establishing the requirements that selected elements in the previous section should meet. (i.e: Use the Attribute Facet to ensure that all IfcDoor elements have the right naming structure)

Export an IDS

Once your IDS has been saved in BIMcollab Nexus, it will be automatically available for all team members via BIMcollab Zoom for property validation or via our Revit BCF Manager for model refinement. However, in case you would like to create a backup of all specifications in your project (or even create your own IDS Templates), you have the option to export your IDS. Follow the steps below to export your specifications as an ‘.ids’ file.
  1. Go to your project’s IDS page in BIMcollab Nexus.
  2. Look for the IDS you would like to export and click on the options button.
  3. Select the option 'Export' (Remember to provide your .ids file with a recognisable and concise name).
