With your free BIMcollab Space, you’ll gain access to powerful tools for seamless collaboration on your BIM projects.
This guide will walk you through setting up your Free BIMcollab Space, uploading models, and inviting team members to collaborate in real-time.
Plus, you’ll have the possibility to setup a free 30-day trial of BIMcollab’s advanced modules like Nexus, Zoom, and Twin.
What’s Included in the Free BIMcollab Space?

Step 1: Create Your Free BIMcollab Space
If your project is already setup by a colleague on their Free BIMcollab Space, just ask to be added to that space.
Or consider setting up a Free BIMcollab Space for your whole company.

At the start of the process, you'll be asked to enter your email address.
- Already have a BIMcollab ID -> the next page will prompt you to log in with your password.
- forgotten your password -> reset it by clicking on "Forgot Password."
- Don't have a BIMcollab ID -> proceed to enter the required information to sign up.
This email will be the first administrator for your space.
Choose the Name of Your Free Space
After logging in or signing up, you will be directed to a page to choose the space name for your new Free BIMcollab space.
Ensure the space name is unique and does not contain any unusual characters. Otherwise, you will receive a message stating, "The space name is unavailable" or "Invalid space name."
It could be your company’s name or a specific project name. The URL format will be:
https://<Your space name>.bimcollab.com
When the process of creating your Space is complete, you will receive an email in your mailbox that your space is ready.
Now you can log in to your new space.
Step 2: Upload Your Models
Once your space is set up, you are immediately in your first project as a Project leader and can start uploading models to your project’s Model WebViewer.
The Model WebViewer
In your project, click on the "Upload Models" button or drag and drop your models to add your first model.
You can add one or multiple IFC files at the same time.
Step 3: Invite Team Members
To collaborate effectively, invite your team members to view or manage the models.
Set Up a Team
Add collaborators to your Project.
Go to the Project Settings tab and click the 'Team members' option. Hit the '+' to add your team members.
The first time you will be guided here automatically.
Assign the Correct Permissions
To quickly get started, add your collaborators as Users.

Add a new userThe creator of the Free BIMcollab Space is automatically set as an administrator. Every users can be either Administrator or User.
Step 4: Collaborating in the Model WebViewer
The BIMcollab Model WebViewer offers a variety of features to facilitate seamless collaboration
- View Models from any device: Your team members can access models on desktops, tablets, or smartphones.
- User-Friendly Interface: The WebViewer is designed to be intuitive, allowing all team members to easily view, comment, and interact with models.
Step 5: Uploading New Versions of Your Models
As your project progresses, you can update your models. Here’s how:
Upload New Versions
Go to your project’s Model WebViewer, and upload the new model version. BIMcollab will ensure that the latest version is always visible in the Model WebViewer.
- Next to your current model, click the tree dots and select 'Replace model'.
- Select your new model and click 'open'
Version Control
Only the last version will be visible in the Model WebViewer.
Your older versions will also be saved in the BIMcollab Twin module.
If you do not have a BIMcollab Twin subscription, you will not see the older versions.
Step 6: Try Advanced BIMcollab Modules
Your Free BIMcollab Space comes with a 30-day trial of the following advanced modules:
BIMcollab Nexus: Try advanced issue management and seamless BIM coordination BIMcollab Zoom: Try out robust rule-based checking and model validation functionalities, including features like Smart Issues, Smart Properties and Lists.
BIMcollab Twin (coming soon! not yet included in the Free BIMcollab Space):
Experience BIM centric document management to store, manage and share building and infrastructure data.
Once your trial ends, you can choose to continue with these modules by purchasing a subscription.
You will always be able to login to your Free BIMcollab Space and keep using the Model WebViewer that is included.
