Connecting to your BIMcollab space in an active BIMcollab project

Updated over 3 months ago

In an offline BIMcollab project, connecting to your BIMcollab space may lead to changes in your open project. This article explains various offline scenarios and the potential effects of connecting to a project within your BIMcollab space.

Local Models in BIMcollab Zoom

If you are working in BIMcollab Zoom with locally loaded models and then connect to a BIMcollab space, the WebViewer models will take precedence if the WebViewer integration in your BIMcollab space is active. As a result, your locally loaded models may be overridden.

They will be overridden in the following situations:

  1. WebViewer Integration is Enabled: If WebViewer integration is active and models are already loaded in your project, you will receive a notification to save your project. This happens because BIMcollab Zoom is attempting to open models from your BIMcollab space as part of the synchronization process.

  2. Models Added to WebViewer After Initial Connection: If the WebViewer integration was previously enabled but no models were present at first, and later models are added to the WebViewer, reconnecting to the project will prompt you to save your project due to these changes.

Shared Project Models in BIMcollab Zoom

If you are working in BIMcollab Zoom with Shared project folders, and the WebViewer integration is turned off, your models in BIMcollab will only come from the Shared project folder.

However, if the WebViewer integration is later enabled and models are added to your project in the BIMcollab space, connecting to your BIMcollab Space will merge the models from both the Shared Project folder ad the WebViewer. This occurs because both sets of models belong to the same project in BIMcollab Space, allowing you to work with models from a different location than the WebViewer.

BIMcollab Project (.bcp)

If you have a BCP project open in BIMcollab and then connect to a project on your BIMcollab space while the WebViewer integration is enabled, the project from BIMcollab space will take precedence, overriding the previously open .bcp project. However, the BCP project is not lost; you can simply reopen it to restore your previous work.

Combine models from different sources in BIMcollab Zoom

Users can load models from various sources into BIMcollab. To combine local models with models from the shared project folder and WebViewer, follow these steps:

  1. Ensure you are connected to the project in your BIMcollab space.

  2. Load models from the project folder by following the steps outlined in this article: Set up the Project folder to link shared files to a project

  3. Load WebViewer models, ensuring that the WebViewer integration is enabled as explained in this article: Loading WebViewer models in BIMcollab

  4. To add local models, go to File > Add to project....

  5. Navigate to the desired file and choose "Open"

  6. The file will be loaded and displayed in the 'Navigation' tab with a File Icon in front of it, along with the other models.

⚠️ Attention: Local models are only accessible to the user who added them to the project and are not shared with the rest of the team; they are only temporarily added to the project in the current BIMcollab session. In contrast, models in the Shared project folder and WebViewer models are available to all project members.
