Connect to a Dropbox Project folder in BIMcollab Zoom

Updated over 3 months ago

This article explains how to work with files hosted on a Dropbox folder using the project folder functionality.

📝 Note: The project folder can only be created by a Project Leader or an Editor with BIMcollab Zoom editing rights and a BIMcollab Zoom license.

Synchronise the Dropbox Folder to Your Computer

  1. Install the Dropbox Desktop App: Download and install Dropbox on your computer.

  2. Sync Relevant Folders: Ensure the folder(s) containing your IFC models are synced with your Dropbox environment.

  3. Make your Files Available Offline: BIMcollab Zoom requires local access to models. If you see a cloud icon next to a file, it is not available locally.

  4. Right-click the file or folder.

  5. Select "Make available offline" to ensure BIMcollab Zoom can access it.

Open shared folder files in BIMcollab Zoom

  1. Open BIMcollab Zoom

  2. Go to File > Project folder...

📝 Note: If you are not connected to a project, the option 'Project folder...' will be greyed out.

  1. Click the [...] button, navigate to the synchronized Dropbox folder on your system, and click 'Select'.

  2. Under 'Shared project folders', the directory structure of the selected shared folder will be displayed. Select the preferred subfolders, and all files located in the selected folders will be linked to the project.

⚠️ Attention: If '(Read only)' is displayed behind 'Shared project folders', please check if you have editing rights for BIMcollab Zoom.

  1. Click on 'Share'

  2. Click the 'Synchronize Project' button to update BIMcollab with the latest changes and share the settings with your team. Once synchronized, other team members will see the models in the 'Navigation' tab when they connect to the project in BIMcollab Zoom.

Prefixes and move/rotate settings are shared with the team. Whether a model is loaded or not is a personal choice for a user, and does not affect the load status for other users in the project.

📝 Note: To change the shared project folder, go to File > Project folder..., navigate to and select the new folder. The models that were linked to the project before will turn red. Right-click on them and choose 'Remove from project'. Consult the article Change the location of the Project Folder for specific recommendations about this topic.
